Gospel and Blending Trip to Poznań — Łódź (Poland)

Dates: October 8-13, 2024

Locality: Poznań, Łódź

Invitation

The saints from Poznań and Łódź would like to warmly invite you to blend and labor in the gospel on the campuses in Poznań and Łódź. This will be the beginning of the academic year in Poland so this will be the best opportunity to reach the students.

About Poznań and Łódź

Currently there are no local churches in Poznań and Łódź, but there are some dear saints and new ones. Over the last two years, the full-time trainees, FTTM extension in Warsaw, have been visiting Poznań and Łódź to shepherd the new ones and preach the gospel.

Łódź (Lodz) is located in central Poland and is the third-largest city in the country (population over 655,000). There are 20 universities in Łódź with over 70,000 students, more than a fifth of whom are from abroad.

For hundreds of years Łódź was a small town. Before the first quarter of the 19th century it was decided on a massive industrialization program and was transformed to a large industrial center. Around the city you can find numerous traces of the melting pot of the multicultural working class. Łódź was such a pot up to World War II. After the war, Łódź became the cinematic capital of Poland. Today it is a creative city, a city of festivals, a city which is being discovered all over again.

History of the Jews in Łódź began at the end of the 18th century when the first Jews arrived to the city. The Jews of Łódź formed the second largest Jewish community in prewar Poland, after Warsaw, and one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. During the Holocaust the Jewish population of the city was concentrated in the northern-district of the city, Baluty, where a Nazi ghetto was established. Of the 223,000 Jews in Łódź before the invasion, only 10,000 survived the Holocaust.

Poznań is one of the oldest and largest Poland’s cities (population over 540,000) with over 102,000 students and 24 colleges and universities. Poznań offers top level of education. Its universities are among Poland’s most prominent ones, and the educational centers and campuses are one of the most modern in Poland.

Poznań is situated in the most economically developed region of Poland, closer to Berlin than to Warsaw. International trade, business meetings and conventions play a vital role for the local economy, since Poznań from 1921 has hosted the most prominent trade fair events in the country, organized by Poznań International Fair, the largest organizer of fairs in Central-Eastern Europe.

A trip to Poznań is a chance to visit a place which is inherently linked to the very roots of Poland. It was here that Mieszko I of Poland decided to found his town, it was also probably here that he was baptized in 966 and joined the ranks of medieval European rulers. This event is considered to be the beginning of Polish statehood.
